Symbiosis: A situation in which two different organisms live with and are dependent on each other, to the advantage of both.
The main focus of the body of work presented in this exhibition, concentrates on the field of fish symbolism, incorporating the Coelacanth, Red Steenbras and Eastern Cape Rocky. The symbolic aspect of these three fish in turn explores and reflects the symbiotic relationship between the artist and his subject matter.
Visual art is a perfect medium to generate public interest and promote a form of environmental awareness. The artworks therefore, apart from their rich symbolism, address the issue that a concerted effort for the preservation of freshwater and marine life is urgently needed, or alternatively we face the responsibility of reducing certain species to little more than memory due the negligence of modern society.
